Renowned ENT specialist Dr Lakhumal Hiranand Hiranandani died on Thursday evening at the Powai’s Hiranandani Hospital. He was 96.According to the doctors, Dr. L.H> Hiranandani was in hospital for the past one month due to various age-related ailments. He died at 5.30 pm on Thursday. Hiranandani who was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan is survived by his wife Kanta and his two sons Niranjan and Surendra.Astudent of the Topiwala National Medical College attached to Nair Hospital, Hiranandani went on to excel in ear, nose and throat surgeries and set up the ENT department at Nair Hospital.
He was known for his unique techniques of surgeries and his methods were popularly known as ‘Dr Hiranandani’s Operations’. His works have been published in medical journals across the world. He was the first Indian appointed as a member of the American Society of Head and Neck Surgery.
