North-East Mumbai – NCP nominee from Mumbai North-East, Sanjay Dina Patil, is probably the only candidate across the state who won despite the fact that he was leading in only one segment. Barring the Mankhurd Assembly segment, in two others-Mulund and Ghatkopar (E)-BJP nominee Kirit Somaiya was leading, while in three segments-Vikhroli, Ghatkopar (W) and Bhandup-MNS nominee Shishir Shinde was ahead of his rivals. Patil secured 47,330 votes in the Mankhurd Assembly segment as against 13,238 bagged by Somaiya and 13,952 by Shinde. As a result, leads secured by Somaiya and Shinde were wiped out owing to the huge votes polled in Mankhurd.
