Heavy rains in night due to extended monsoon did not deter enthusiastic participants from reporting early in morning for 4th Swami Vivekanand Run (SV Run) held at Powai on Sunday 18th September. The rain Gods also favoured them by clearing for few hours in morning.
Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP), Powai holds this annual event to coincide with anniversary of Swami Vivekanand’s historical speech in the parliament of world religions at Chicago in 1893. The event spreads awareness about Swami Vivekanand amongst youth and also support cause of charity.
The run was flagged off by Smt. Poonam Mahajan, Member of Parliament, Mumbai North Central. Other dignitaries included Mr. RN Singh MLC, Mr. Chandan Sharma, Corporator and Mr. Sunil Patodia, Patron for BVP Powai.
In the brief starting ceremony Mr. Rishikesh Joshi, Hon. President of BVP Powai introduced BVP and read a small poem about the run. Mr. Gaurav Sharma an linguist read out the historic speech of Swami Vivekanand, noted journalist and author Mr. Ratan Sharda told audience about relevance of Vivkanand’s teaching today. Chief Guest Smt. Poonam Mahajan connected very well with young audience and enthused them with her brief but spirited address.
Winners amongst various categories were Mr. Dhyaneshwar Morga (adult-Men), Ms. Abhirami Prasanna (adult-women) , Mr. Karam Singh (Sr. Citizen- men), Ms. Dharani Swaminathan (Sr. Citizen – Women), there were four categories for children which also saw good participation and keen competition.
The run was 4.5km for adults, 3.5km for senior citizens and 2.5km for children with routes running within Hiranandani Garden premises. The event was supported by sponsors from different field like software and computers, automobile, banking, hospitality, security services and sporting goods. Adequate arrangements were made for participants for water, refreshments and medical aid.
Mrs. Rupal Anjaria along with Mr. S.J. Bhatt were the conveners of this prestigious event. This year saw participation by various groups like Powai Fine Arts, Gyanam Ganga School for visually handicapped, NC cadets from RJ College and some sporting groups in Powai area.
Cheques were handed over to three charities identified this year Abhyuday Pratishthan, Seva Sahyog and Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram. Prize distribution was done by Mr. R N Singh, Mr. Chandan Sharma and Mr. L R Jaju President of Bharat Vikas Parishad, Konkan Prant. Mrs. Anjaria thanked all participants, sponsors and volunteers. The event concluded with national anthem being sung by all the participants together. It was indeed a Run for a cause.
