The pests don’t eat them and we do!
Did you know that chemicals conventionally sprayed on our fruits and vegetables, and had through packaged and processed foods are hormone disruptors? These are in fact the leading cause of hormonal diseases such as thyroid, diabetes, menstrual issues, osteoporosis and more.
The more we start eating right and clean, the sooner will we start healing. This awareness is what initiated SHARAN (Sanctuary for Health & Reconnection to Animals & Nature), to start organic farmers markets throughout the city. The organisation is headed by Dr Nandita Shah, who is quite a unique doctor as she doesn’t prescribe any medicines, but food as medicine! Thousands have been able to reverse their diseases and get off medications simply through a change of diet.
Naturally grown, farm fresh fruits and vegetables are harvested the night before and brought directly from the farms to the market. An array of rice, lentils, flours, millets, pastas, oil-free khakras, lavache, chikkis, crackers and more are also available. What’s more one also gets to have healthy snacks like oil-free batata wadas, baked pani puris, dairy-free cheese toasties along with sugar-free, gluten-free cookies, cakes and more! It’s such a delight to watch kids come and pick up the greens, vegetables and fruits with their parents. The taste of food made with organic ingredients is enhanced, and many have witnessed their appetites reducing while going organic, so a good strategy to weight loss too!
The other best part about this market is supporting farmers who take immense efforts to grow organic. Inspite of commercial farming being more profitable, they go against the odds and do what is right for the environment and their conscience too. The market ensures fair price to the farmers as the middlemen are eliminated.
Come spend a Saturday to support organic farming and your health….at Summer Garden Restaurant, Hiranandani from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm
