Will Powai Lake lose it charm once the metro VI line passes next to it. Will it be better maintained as the more people would halt here?
Powai Lake would sure get the much needed foot falls like any public place needs. Powai Lake promenade is neglected as the residents find it diffuclt to approch the promenade. There is no provision for parking and the overheads foot over bridges are in a bad state.
I hope the plans of the government does include to keep the public space status of the lake intact.
What is Metro VI ?
The 14.47 km long Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg Metro-VI corridor is to have 13 stations. Construction is to begin by December 2017. It is to be ready by 2021-22.There would be a station at Powai Lake. The promenade will remain close for the public from December 2017 to ease the construction.
Metro VI will connect Lokhandwala Complex to Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg in the eastern suburb.
The stations include Lokhandwala Complex, Adarsh Nagar, Momin Nagar, JVLR, Shyam Nagar, Mahakali Caves, SEEPZ Village, Saki Vihar Road, Ram Baug, Powai Lake, IIT Powai, Kanjurmarg (W) and Vikhroli-Eastern Express.Metro 6 is to provide interchange with Metro 2 at Infinity Mall in Andheri, with Metro 3 at SEEPZ, with Metro 4 and the Mumbai Suburban Railway at Jogeshwari and Kanjurmarg, and with Metro 7 at JVLR.

POWAI LAKE BEAUTIFICATION COMES TO A GRINDING HALT
I have been hearing about the BMC’s 6.5 crore beautification plans for the lake for atleast a decade. But from this midday report BMC also has been caught off gaurd on the METRO VI plans. The plans for Metro VI are so sudden that most citizens activist are not sure of the actual plans.
Here are some reaction from Twitter

Won't be destroyed from what I learnt.. The lines are above the Rambaug bridge

I have tried running there. Horrible place to run. Lots of traffic. Couples making out even in the morning. There is a break and then it continues further. Who designed it like that?

Im not sure, but wouldn't the metro be built smack in the middle of JVLR above the divider?
If not, then yeah, it's gonna be a sad end to that promenade.

Much needed for ease of transportation. Of course sad about the promenade.. Probably necessary evil?
