Faaso’s – a chain serving Kebab Wraps and rolls – is now in Hiranandani, Powai. Its their 13th outlet in India and 2nd in Mumbai. Well, what sets this place apart is its insistence on Desi, Fresh and Quick. True to its tagline “wraps on the run”, it serves wonderfully tasty, freshly made wraps (in Flour as well as Whole Wheat) in less than 3 minutes for a eat-in/takeaway and in less than 25 mins for a home delivery within 2.5 Kms. And there are 30 desi fillings to chose from – ranging from paneer tikka to mushroom mayo in veg and from chicken reshmi to mutton boti in non-veg. The boxes these wraps come in are a pleasant surprise as well. All wraps are under 100 Rs and start from Rs 30.
However, there is more to Faaso’s than only great food and great packaging. It is also a stark evidence of growing first generation entrepreneurship in India by people having mainstream educational and corporate background. None of the founders or their forefathers have ever run a restaurant. They went to Engineering Colleges and top business schools ranging from IIMs and INSEAD (a top ten business schools in the world). The CEO is an ex-consultant from McKinsey & Co.
Also, Faaso’s is one of the very few restaurant brands, which use social media integrally with their business. In Pune, their Tweet-2-order system – a first in the world, according to TIMEOUT – is a rage and they are planning to start it in Mumbai in April.
Faaso’s aims to open 12 outlets in Mumbai this year and become a national brand in the next five years. When asked, they said that the vision is to have people in urban India think beyond the pizzas and buns and instead have a freshly made desi wrap. According to them, it’s the only thing that you can have with one hand, while the other is busy tapping away at the computer.
