S M Shetty International School Powai Admission Experiences

1 min read

I am traveling for a short trip to Powai, Mumbai for school admission in 6th grade for my child in S M Shetty international school. I was looking to see if anyone has gone through similar experience and could assist and share their experiences with me. I will be there on Nov 27th and 28th and then anytime between 2nd and 4th December.

I would also be interested to talk to folks who have returned back and settled around Powai area and hear their experiences. The first hand experience will really help me plan my move back next year.

Please get back.

Thanks and Regards,

My son is in SM Shetty, though in Nursery (pre primary) yet. I have noticed a few traits which he has picked up from his friends which i certainly don’t like or appreciate. My Sister-In-Law is a teacher for pre-primary & has said that the school is changing for the better & it would take them sometime to reach a level where it can be counted among the best in the area.

Hiranandani International is supposed to be a good school but at the same time they admit children who are residents of Hiranandani Complex & only if they have any vacancy after that do they entertain other children.

Other option is Bombay Scottish but unfortunately it doesnt have an international section but is 1 of the good schools.

The last option is Gopal Sharma School & they have an international section but am not sure how good it is. Many children from my complex go to the school so i presume it must be good.

Looking for admissions for our daughter to Jr Kg in one of the schools in Powai, when we return to India in early 2010. When do they start giving the application forms and how does the process go…Is it difficult to manage and get in staying away from India? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Take or rather buy a flat in Hiranandani and admit yr child in their school. As Bombay scottish gives admission to whom only god knows and SM Shetty school is not a clean school nor they hv good ammenities or good staff…may be they r not paying good money to the teachers or they r not getting gd staff….If u can afford then pls do buy (even if u can buy one bedroom) in Hiranandani.

Is Ur son/Daughter in Sm shetty school???

Forming these wrong conceptions about things is quite wrong
And that to publishing it on a public site is even worse when things are not so.

      I M a 10th standard student from D same school.
And the school is Damn clean..
as far as the staff & amenities R concerned It is one of the best in & around powai!!!

Talking of amenities HFS has the worst toilets… Parents of that school have protested against the authorities and still no action has been taken.!!

If U get time so please pay a visit to our school & then form a perception.!

      thank U.!

Really appreciate your attitude towards your school.

Need to know more about the S M Shetty school since you are studying there.

Does the school takes good care of other activities like sport, music, drawing etc.

        Is the teaching methods good?

        Looking forward for your feedback.

Does anyone have experience of the IGCSE section in SM Shetty? Are the teachers and education good and at par with other IGCSE schools? I am looking at admitting my child in IGCSE in SM Shetty? But since the board is new in the school, am a little apprehensive… Thanks in advance.

rules to be followd at sm shetty IPC1  B/D…(I dont think these rules are applicable  to   the    entire   school)
          1)   kids have to drink water   by themself, no help will b given by maid / teacher.(shirts getting wet and   kids falling sick, bcoz of this)
2)kids are not allowed to bring oily foods to the   class, bcoz the maid /  teacher   is not ready to make them wash their hands after food.
3)Kids are    getting hurt …Teacher says they   are not responsible,it happens  when kids have fights(pls note kids   are  of    age   grp     2.5  to   3.5)
4)Teacher  prefers  even toilet  trained  kids   to  come  in  d iaper  so that the maid doesnt   have  to take them to toilet…

heard  that   they   are   appointing  1  more  teacheer to  that  classs…hope  that  conditions may  improve  after  that………

I reallly agreeeee,my kid in sm shetty international board nursery and it doesnt meet  annnnny   of the expectations . Fees also  not bad, they take 50k per year + 20k deposit which has a locking period of 3 years….The IPC  coordinator Ritu Singh is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery     rude aaand arrogant, not at allllll  open to any
suggestions, have   nooooo clue regarding  her background……She is  not efficient also…I am wondering why s m shetty is appointing such staff, may b their salary wod b tooo low  that  no one else is ready to join that  helll….

gopal sharma is ok. it has international board. but they ask for hefty donation for which you wont be given any receipt. initially they will make all the noise that no seat is vacant etc…. just to take money.
another drawback is that school administrative staff is too rude. their response to your queries you make in no manner can be called polite. and staff at the reception seem to be more busy than prime minister.
teaching is ok so is the syllabus

Gopal Sharma is a good school.I have met many satisfied parents whose kids study there. Also the students of the school seem quite well-mannered,polite and knowledgable.I have taken admission for my daughter in Junior Kg there and I didn’t find the school staff rude at all.Instead, they were quite polite and co-operative. True, the donation is a bit high, but the yearly fees is reasonable as compared to the hefty fees charged by HFS,Bombay Scottish,Prime Academy,S.M.Shetty etc as far as the international section is concerned. So,its beneficial in the long run.

Does Gopal Sharma take special care for nursery and junior KG kids . Is it comparable to any pre school like Little Tigers,Tree House, etc?

Why do you ask this,Praveen? Have you had any bad experiences? I have heard that the teachers in Gopal Sharma take good care of their wards and the pressure on the kids are minimal.. Please inform me if its otherwise.Thanks.

    Hey Bina,

I have just passed out of the school.

The school pays immense interest in co-curriculum activities.
In fact the has dedicated coaching for almost every sport.

As far as the teaching methods are concerned..
Our school has recently adopted a technique known as ‘ Edu Comp’.
In which most of the teaching is done via the projector.

    Sorry Bina, wasnt in town.

My son passed out from Nursery this year.

Had initial apprehensions abt the school, but all good now.

Teachers are all good n montesaari trained…. they send their teachers for training.
It sure is changing for the better. The school is neat & clean. They have lot of extra-curricular activities & also summer camps for which i’m enrolling my son too.

HFS had a name, cant really say much abt it now since i dont know anyone who studies there. I had gone 4 admission to the school. they told me come in April & if they have any seats they’ll give me the form. i didnt bother with them again.

    Hi Everyone,

I have both my kids in S M Shetty International School. Class I (CIPP I ) and Nursery (IPC I). My experience has been quite good. School is clean and well maintained. Classrooms are airy and hygenic. The teachers too are quite nice. Especially the CIPP I A teacher is very good. The school has good extra curricular activities and a decent size playground.

Fees albeit are quite high nearing 1 lakh for class I and 50k for IPC I.

I did try HFS earlier, but they just dont entertain you if you dont stay in Hiranandani. Bombay Scottish is good too, but no International section. Gopal Sharma is pretty average and unclean. Trust me I stay in Powai Vihar Complex where the school is situated.
