Nature lover and singer Lucky Ali has slammed the municipal plan to have three artificial fountains in Powai Lake as a bad idea, claimingthat they would disturb the ecology in and around the water body, which also houses Indian marsh crocodiles.

On the eve of Earth Day on Tuesday, the son of comedian Mehmood interacted with over 450 schoolchildren at Powai, and also took a pledge to protect the environment.

"I feel that the beauty and serenity of Powai Lake will be spoilt if the BMC goes ahead with its plan to have three fountains in it, including a musical fountain,” said Ali.

The event, organised by the Young Environmentalists Programme (YEP) Trust, had students of Hiranandani Foundation School, Pawar Public School (Bhandup) and Powai’s Kendriya Vidyalaya school participating in it. YEP president, Elsie Gabriel, said, "The students were shown the recycling plant at Nirvana Park in Hiranandani Gardens, and later taken to the mouth of Mithi river, near Powai lake, to create awareness about the Earth.

When his children were gifted mangrove saplings, Ali said, "We only reap what we sow. If we sow the seeds today, we can expect our children to enjoy their fruits tomorrow.”

Last year, singer Hariharan had also voiced a similar protest against the proposed fountains at Powai Lake.
