MUMBAI: The police have arrested two youths who used to lure a 10-year-old boy to steal laptops from Hiranandani Gardens and nearby plush residential complexes in Powai.
Venkatesh Piramal Vadar (20) and Ganesh Nagran Vadar (20), with the help of the boy, have stolen 26 laptops.
“The boy was paid Rs 100 for every laptop he helped them steal. He would use the money to play video games in Kurla,” said senior inspector Rajdoot Rupwate, Powai police station.
Explaining the modus operandi, Rupwate said, “They would catch the early morning local to Kurla, pick up the boy from there and head for Powai. The boy would go to the top floor of a building and climb down, searching for flats whose doors were ajar.”
Rupwate said, “The boy would hide the stolen laptops in a school bag. He was caught while fleeing after one such theft last month. During interrogation, he revealed the names of the duo.”
Joseph Reddy, general manager, Hiranandani Group, said, “The society members can approach us with the complaint. Our security commandos will take care of the matter.”
