There is every reason to watch out for this young lady.
Not only is she bold and beautiful, her enterprising skills are
exemplary. Meet Bhavna Kumar Chatterjee, originally from Delhi, this
Punjabi kudi married into a Bengali family in Powai.

Bhavna set
out to write her success story right from her days at NIFT, Delhi as an
undergraduate student for accessory designing. "The comprehensive
course spread over three and a half years developed my design skills
especially in leather lifestyle goods and handbags. While at NIFT, I
did projects with Dastkar (an NGO promoting the crafts and textiles of
India), with Guruman Trendsetters, followed by my as a product designer
at Vivaldi leather, one of India’s top most leather export houses,"
says Bhavna about her learning years.

With a drive to go independent, Bhavna started her
own production house in 2002, where she designed and manufactured for
private exporters and design houses. There has been no looking back
since then as Bhavna has only grown from strength to strength. Bhavna
has been associated with stores like Circa, Ananya (Nandita Mahtani’s
store in Delhi and Mumbai), the Shoe Garage (Delhi), Metro shoes, Satya
Paul, etc. to name a few!

After her marriage and relocation in
Powai, this entrepreneur staged her first collection last year.  There
has been no stopping after that. "Powai is a wonderful place to work
in, firstly it is very well connected and also I find the people of
Powai very fashionable and fashion conscious," says Bhavna, who has set
up her own company here called Zom-b.

Bhavna has also
collaborated with numerous design houses abroad. Her main connection
with the international market has been through export houses like Sage,
Vivaldi and Lini designs. "I have developed collections for them for
design fairs abroad and for their private design houses," says a
visibly excited Bhavna. Worked her way up the fashion ladder, Bhavna is
making her name known with her straight edge designs and perfect
handbag compilations.

Giving tips to catapult our readers to
higher fashion grounds, Bhavna suggests, "In bags, the trend is a
sleeker, cleaner and more structured look, without the lumpy untidiness
of excessive bulky outside pockets on every available surface. Many
bags have interesting trims such as studs, piping lines and tassels,
but retaining a less fussy more streamlined look is in."

add to the professional tips Bhavna says, "The fashionable pack already
know that after dusk, small bags work best, the sleek, expensive and
small look is in. A large bag takes points off elegance."
