Maati is the new craft destination store opened in Powai Plaza, Hiranandani. The inspiration behind Maati, is the essence of nature and earth that’s imbibed into all handmade crafts in India. These crafts have traditionally employed sustainable materials and methods which have consistently proved friendly to man, animal and environment.

By translation traditional crafts into design that can be assimilated into daily lives, we aim to bring craft into mainstream. Our agenda through the Maati store is to create awareness amongst consumers on the uniqueness of handmade products and also encourage a culture of appreciation of these crafts amongst theurban consumers.

Home and office décor in Powai is set for a new lease of life – “The Treasure Chest” has finally come to town and with a refreshing collection of contemporary art from Southeast Asia. On display at the exhibition are about 110 exquisite creations, carefully handpicked for their vibrant and vivid portrayal of real life, people and nature. There is a range of dreamy abstracts that offer something new upon every look; celebrations of Balinese life and culture expressed through the use of vibrant colours; stunning depictions of the calm serenity of Buddha; and many other asian inspired themes.

About The Treasure Chest

The Treasure Chest is the branchild of Ritika Uppal Rai who works directly with artists in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, spending time and effort in getting to know each of them and understanding their passion for painting. For the last 5 years, Ritika has been successfully commissioning stylised individual pieces while also carefully selecting high-quality and evocative art from the personal collections of the painters themselves. Each piece offered by The Treasure Chest is therefore distinctive and exclusive. The artists for this exhibition have used various mediums such as oil, watercolor, lacquer and pen and applied different techniques to create extraordinary and eye-catching effects.
Most importantly, The Treasure Chest aims to dispel the myth that beautiful art is expensive. Hence, the current range is priced in the range of Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 18,000 only.

The Sahara Arts & Crafts 2010 Shopping Festival is on now until June 13 at the Durga Pooja Ground, Jal Vayu Vihar, located on Orchard Avenue in Hirandani Gardens, Powai. The Weekend Jam comprises a string of live performances by artists from the ArtistAloud.com repertoire across the country and aims to connect with fans across the cities.

The first weekend Jam by ArtistAloud.com was kicked off at  Planet M Powai on April 30th. Artists who performed live included Sharad Jagtiani, Kavita Seth, Abhinanda Sarkar, Nakash Sargam ,Rishabh Srivastava, Ritika Sahni, Uvie and Sid -Suhas. The  performances were live streamed to an online audience via a link to the artist aloud web portal.

ArtistAloud.com is a revolution in the Indian Independent Music Scene that aims to give not only an artist but also the consumer the control and right to build the demand for Independent Music on a global level that is a sheer expression of musical speech by an Artist towards his audience.

If you enjoy world fusion music, don’t miss the Prakash Sontakke Band playing at the Ramada Powai on May 21. The band will perform in the hotel’s multi-cuisine restaurant, Herbs n Spices, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Presented by UTV World Movies and The Bombay Elektrik Projekt, the Prakash Sontakke Band’s music could be best described as genre defying, rhythmically tuneful and spiritually uplifting world fusion. Complex rhythms sound effortlessly simple and Western Melodies intertwine with Indian raagas on retro beats. Bossa Nova meets Konnakol and Ambient singing meets lounge flourishes.

Prakash Sontakke – The only musician of Karnataka to get the Independent Music Awards for World fusion. He is the only guitarist of India playing different styles on the Electric Slide Guitar . Though from a very traditional Hindustani Classical background he is equally comfortable with other genres as he is with classical . Regularly travels abroad for performances in leading Music festivals in India Canada and USA. His performances with Indo Canadian trio Lehera, Moonarra, TAS Mani ensemble, Vrushti, Layalahiri, Mookambika taalavadya, Thermal and a Quarter are a treat to watch.

Karthik Mani – One of the most talented drummers of India he is also a versatile percussionist . Mixing Indian classical styles with western grooves can be called his specialisation. He is also a part of the Indo Canadian Trio to have gotten the Independent Music awards.

Adarsh – a young and dynamic tabla player has been a part of various bands his specialisation being that he can fit in fantastic Indian style grooves for complex western rhythms.

Shadrach Solomon – One of the very few keyboardists in India mixing Karnatic melodies and western styles he is the backbone of several bands like The L Subramanyam troupe, Layataranga and The Prakash Sontakke Band.

This summer camp will include, free-of-cost, underprivileged children from Powai, giving them an opportunity to identify their talent and build their personality, which they would not have been able to do otherwise. Splash helps them in overcoming their complexes and also helps the more fortunate kids to understand the difficulties that the underprivileged kids experience and hence valuing and being thankful for what they have.

Along with dance and Drama some highlights of Splash Into Summer 2010 are :
