I happen to live across Golden Oak and on my evening walks, i suddenly saw a police van opposite Golden Oak Bldg along with some residents and Hiranandani Commandos. I immedialtely knew this was something about the balloon war which has been going on since yesterday. I had been lucky yesterday, as I had avoided getting hit in the cross-fire between the war raged by the 2 buildings on the either side.
I joined the group of residents/commando’s/policemen to understand what had happened. Incidently the over enthusiastic kids of Golden Oak building had thrown a ballon at a guy called Sunil Patel from Walkeshwar who was on a kinetic bike. I hear him explaining to the police that he is a network marketer and on marketing calls.
Mr. Sunil Patel got so angry at the kids, that he got down from his kinetic and started pelting stones at the kids, the kids retaliated by throwing another ballon on him. Fortunately none of the kids were injured by the stone pelting Mr. Sunil indulged in, but one car belonging to a resident of Golden Oak, Mr. Jai Talwar, a baleno,(MH01-NA30910) was badly damaged. I saw the dents caused by the stones, if it would have got into one of the kid, the kid would have been gravely injured. Also it clearly seems that if the balloon thrown by the kids had hit Mr. Patel, he would have fallen from his bike, and would have been seriously injured, maybe a call center Sumo would have run over him.
The reaction by Mr. Patel, is also highly disturbing, if his stones had found the right target we would have a had a inrevocable damage. Some of the pedestrians who watched the incident told me that Mr. Patel was throwing huge stones, whatever he could lay his hands on, there are were people who said that the kids were at fault and then there were others who said Mr. Sunil Patel was a disturbed man.
The kids on the other hand have to be explained that throwing balloons at pedestrians or bikers is apparently very dangerous.
Please feel free to comment.
Have a safe and Happy Holi

Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has passed an interim order on 15th October 2009, permitting users of Reliance Energy to switch over to TATA Power. This has come as a boon to millions of consumers who have been complaining of high tariff charged by Reliance Energy.
To avail of this facility, a consumer has to fill in a form and submit it to TATA Power along with photocopies of address proof, latest paid bill of Reliance Energy and cheque of deposit amount + Rs 50 connection charges. The application form can be downloaded from TATA Power website . Though the form appears very complicated, you need not fill in all the details related to connected load if your Reliance Energy mentions the same. The TATA Power website also has details about how to calculate the deposit (Rs 200 x Connected load in KWh) e.g., if your connected KWh load is 17, then the deposit amount would be Rs 3,400 and the cheque amount payable to TATA Power would be RS 3,450. You can also pay ad hoc deposit of approximate one month’s electricity bill.
You have the option to retain your existing meter or switching over to TATA Power meter. The meter would be provided free of cost.
Please note that TATA Power has not appointed any agents for switchover, For consumers staying in Co-op Housing Societies, individual members can switchover independently and no NOC or permission is required from the Society. In case you require any further information, you can visit the TATA Power website or contact me at raviobhan@gmail.com

The Lakers have donated 2 incubators (baby warmers) and a phototherapy unit to the maternity department of the Sarvoday Hospital (Sarvoday), being run by a private charitable trust, in Ghatkopar, Mumbai.
The unit was in inaugurated at 10am on the 28th November, ‘09, at the hands of DG TN Subramanian, in the august presence of first lady Vidhya, trustees and doctors from the Sarvodaya Hospital and a group of enthusiastic Lakers and their friends.
Sarvoday is strategically located on LBS Marg, within minutes of Ghatkopar Station and has a large catchment of very deserving patients, particularly from the nearby Parksite. Parksite, extending from Ghatkopar to Vikhroli, houses a large migrant, daily-wage, under-privileged and hence deserving population in Mumbai.
Sarvoday’s maternity ward had only one unfunctional incubator while it handles about 150 deliveries a month.

These baby-warmers are very essential in neonatal paediatric care, particularly in the case of pre-term, low weight babies. The photo-therapy unit was found to be much needed in cases of neonatal jaundice. One more such unit is being provided.
The incubators help in maintaining neonatal body temperature and hence in the prevention of other
complications, in cases of premature and complicated deliveries, thereby improving mortality rate.
The foll pix show the DG of RI Dist 3140, the Mg-Trustee & Doctors of Sarvoday and Lakers assembled
on the occasion.

Hello:
I am traveling for a short trip to Powai, Mumbai for school admission in 6th grade for my child in S M Shetty international school. I was looking to see if anyone has gone through similar experience and could assist and share their experiences with me. I will be there on Nov 27th and 28th and then anytime between 2nd and 4th December.
I would also be interested to talk to folks who have returned back and settled around Powai area and hear their experiences. The first hand experience will really help me plan my move back next year.
Please get back.
Thanks and Regards,
Harry.

This is about the visit to one of the remedial school (under the aegis of VIDYA) situated at Phule nagar , near IIT, Powai. The school is supervised by its co-coordinator Mrs. K.B. Joshi, a retired KVIIT teacher, who has been mentoring about 65 under privileged children, from phule nagar and surya nagar, for the past 6 years.
Besides these children, Mrs. Joshi has also mentored more than 60 women by teaching them how to read and write. The passion with which she has been managing this school is unparalled. Despite belonging from an affluent family, she never let the strata difference make her wards feel alienated. Nor does she think twice even if she has to walk to school weathering all seasons. She has a son, working with Transocean and a computer engineer daughter, settled in the USA.
Below is a video interview with Mrs.Kadambari Joshi where she shares her experience about running this remedial school at Phule Nagar slums.
