CraftVogue helps promote rural groups by organizing exhibitions in metro cities and helps these organizations to get more exposure and thus better financials. CraftVogue is associated with Aagor Daagra Afad, an organisation that emerged out of a successful project started by the ant (the action northeast trust www.theant.org) in 2002 which aimed not just at promoting livelihoods amongst women weavers of the Bodo tribe, but also attempted  to present the resplendent culture that they represented, quite contrary to the image some of their bomb-blasting brothers had created while seeking control over their traditional homelands and resources.

Akshardham Powai Swaminarayan Mandir also know as International Spiritual Research Cente at Powai  is a beautiful expanse of land that was first sanctified by Yogi Bapa by the performance of a yagna. In 1978, Chandrabhan Sharmaji and family donated it to Kakaji for satsanga developmental activities.

By the efforts of the Tardev aspirant brothers, on February 3, 2003 (Kakaji’s Sakshatkardin), the International Spiritual Research Center was inaugurated. It serves as a memorial place for Guru Kakaji and a “research center” for mankind to develop the universal science of spirituality. The Swaminarayan Akshar-Purushottam mandira houses the moortis of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Anaadi Mool Akshar Moorti Gunatitanand Swami, Anaadi Maha Mukta Gopalanand Swami, and the gunaateeta lineage.

Kantikaka’s memorial shrine was established in 1986. Today, it remains on the back side of the temple, symbolizing the unique friendship between Kakaji and Kantikaka. Kantikaka, Shantibhai Seth, Nagardasbhai Kothari, Sampatdada Wagh, and others had toiled greatly for a center that echoes Kakaji’s divine life. Also in the back side is the Saadhaka-santa residence, innagurated on February 13, 2005 (Vasant Panchami).

SUVARNA TEMPLE is also known as Nine mother children temple is indeed a unique temple in its own. Located amidst the beauty of powai this temple has lot of serenity and calm. The ‘Nine Mother Children’ temple is one of the oldest holy places in Powai. This temple was evolved in 1957, but the prathista and other ritual ceremony were performed on 1963. Here you can find all the almighties from all the communities-Hindus, Muslim, Chirsten. So the restriction is not imparted on any caste to enter inside the premises. Here all the caste and religion are treated one and the same.

‘Nine Mother’ here indicates the nine goddess – Shree Laxmi Devi, Shree Nag Devi, Shree Saraswathi Devi, Shree Nav Durga Devi, Shree Rakteshwari Devi and the Mother Mary. Other powers are also placed they are Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Shree Khandoba, Shree Balaji, Shree Sai Baba, Shree Shani Dev, Shree Hanuman and the Nav Grah. The temple creates the atmosphere of harmony and beauty to the approach of life and its varities. Spritual and cultural activities were organized to revive the ancient tradition to build a bridge amongst different customs and sectors.

The Lakers have donated 2 incubators (baby warmers) and a phototherapy unit to the maternity department of the Sarvoday Hospital (Sarvoday), being run by a private charitable trust, in Ghatkopar, Mumbai.

The unit was in inaugurated at 10am on the 28th November, ’09, at the hands of DG TN Subramanian, in the august presence of first lady Vidhya, trustees and doctors from the Sarvodaya Hospital and a group of enthusiastic Lakers and their friends.

Sarvoday is strategically located on LBS Marg, within minutes of Ghatkopar Station and has a large catchment of very deserving patients, particularly from the nearby Parksite. Parksite, extending from Ghatkopar to Vikhroli, houses a large migrant, daily-wage, under-privileged and hence deserving population in Mumbai.

Sarvoday’s maternity ward had only one unfunctional incubator while it handles about 150 deliveries a month.

These baby-warmers are very essential in neonatal paediatric care, particularly in the case of pre-term, low weight babies. The photo-therapy unit was found to be much needed in cases of neonatal jaundice. One more such unit is being provided.

The incubators help in maintaining neonatal body temperature and hence in the prevention of other

complications, in cases of premature and complicated deliveries, thereby improving mortality rate.

Powai Bengali Welfare Association (PBWA), a charitable organization formed with the purpose of enhancing cultural and social harmony, will be organizing its fourth Durga Puja festival – Sarvajanin Durgotsav 2009 – at Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, during September 23rd to 28^th, 2009. The Durgotsav was first organized in 2006 and within a span of just four years, it has emerged as one of the biggest and most popular pujas in Mumbai.

This is about the visit to one of the remedial school (under the aegis of VIDYA) situated at Phule nagar , near IIT, Powai. The school is supervised by its co-coordinator Mrs. K.B. Joshi, a retired KVIIT teacher, who has been mentoring about 65 under privileged children, from phule nagar and surya nagar, for the past 6 years.

Besides these children, Mrs. Joshi has also mentored more than 60 women by teaching them how to read and write. The passion with which she has been managing this school is unparalled. Despite belonging from an affluent family, she never let the strata difference make her wards feel alienated. Nor does she think twice even if she has to walk to school weathering all seasons. She has a son, working with Transocean and a computer engineer daughter, settled in the USA.

Nagara Panchami was celebrated with religious fervour at Pancha Kuteer Sri Mahashesha Rundamalini temple, located at Powai, Andheri (East), on Sunday July 27.  The temple is dedicated to the serpent god Naga. Innumerable devotees from all over the metro, arrived to offer puja and prayers on the auspicious occasion of Nagara Panchami.

Temple managing trustee Suvarna Baba led the Vedic rites on the occasion.
A large number of devotees, including bollywood actors, politicians, distinguished entrepreneurs, social workers and police officers, arrived at the temple here, to offer puja to appease the serpent god on Nagara Panchami, on Sunday.
