Congratulations Sindhuja Desai, Student of Hiranandani Foundation School

Sindhuja Desai, a 7th std student of Hiranandani Foundation school, Powai, got the 3rd prize in essay writing competition organised by CMCA, her views were aired by Times Now news channel on 16th September, 2010.(watch video here) .

CMCA had organized an essay writing competition in Mumbai schools, they are  associated with . The children had to write an essay on the topic “WHAT DEMOCRACY MEANS TO ME”on the occasion of world democracy day on 15th September. It is a great initiative  of CMCA it is an innovative mission   to take children right across the door steps and fundamentals of democracy and work on the civic awareness issues innovative so as to bring the much awaited and required change for better in our political and social environ. Hope the growing network gets across to as many schools across India slowly and steadily.

She also won the 2nd prize in the event ABHINAYA, cascade 18′. She performed for the theme of “ Kaleeya Mardana” of  little Krishna where in Lord Krishna defeats and takes control of the great snake ‘ Kaleeya ‘ during his child hood. The dance was composed by her mother and Guru  Dr Sailaja desai who is one of the rare Phd scholars in classical dance. The western  music used was from one of the albums of ‘ Vanessa Mae”  an accomplished asian violin artist.

CASCADE is an event where many of the ICSE schools from Mumbai and Thane compete in various events  like Drama,Music,Dance,Band,Painting,Fashion Designing and sports such as Foot ball,Cricket etc. These competitions are held at JAMNABAI SCHOOL,Mumbai on 5th and 6th of September. It is an annual event of inter school competitions. ABHINAYA  is the competition in which one has to perform  in any form of classical dance on an international track and should not have Indian singers or Indian instruments. There was about 26 children from different ICSE schools who showcased their classical dance performances in various forms like Bharata natyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak  to the western tunes.
