Hiten needed a broadband connection at Lake Homes, and we asked out friends to help him out in selecting the a broadband service provider in Powai. I’m very happy with Airtel for past two years and used to have nightmares with YOU telecom. Check out some of the answers if you are not satisfied with your current broadband connection. From the discussion it certainly looks like what works for one, doesn’t work for someone else. Unless you have a relative working in MTNL I don’t recommend it for sure. But other interesting choices are Trikona, Hathaway, MTS, Reliance, Sify, Rajesh Cablenet and Nivyah Broadband.

mtnl sucks..horrible service….dnt even think of taking it…till the time ur net is working its good…if it goes bad..for watever reason…then count weeks till they come and fix it..and be prepared for a bribe too…or else they wnt turn up the next time…:)

hahahahahha, Oh god one of my query and all started fighting…. By the way i was using MTNL as avleen said.. she was right… It went off and no one has cum since months to repair it……. Forget MTNL, Other then that i heard some Global Internet service in Powai Plaza I dont know they provide broadband service i guess.. Do any of you know abt it…….. Or heard abt it

Just go to Relaince world in Hiranandani and get the new broadband + Excellent speed and you can take it along with you also. BTW, am uising MTNL for 3+ years and Reliance for 1+ yr – both without problem

I’ve used MTNL for over 2 years in Powai and nearly 2 years in 2 locations in Matunga and Mahim. It is by far the BEST and most reliable. In these 2+ years the connection has perhaps gone down 2-3 times. And it’s been repaired IMMEDIATELY; haven’t had to bribe anyone, just one call will do. Once I called their technical call centre at 3 am to report a fault and it was set right immediately. This level of service is extraordinary. I compare this with Hathway Internet which my in-laws use at Mahim and that is a lousy, slow connection that keeps giving trouble and where customer service is non-existent. Also use a Tata Photon provided by my company–it works decently at Powai, but has given me major problems at many other places in Bombay. In Delhi, it just refuses to work on Broadband mode–you just get the slow connection. And just returned from Bhopal this morning, where Tata Photon completely refused to work–even the slow connection is not available. I use BlackBerry from Vodafone too and when I compare Vodafone’s third-rate customer service to MTNL, I feel MTNL is far superior. They don’t have marketing savvy and smart offices, but the work gets done and their service is far superior. Which after all is why you want broadband right? Not for the brand or the marketing campaign that seems to make it cool.
Depends on what you want it for. If you are a casual user with need for occasional browsing and e-mail anyone will do though I would recommend YOU which is most cost effective. They have a 1.5 GB plan at Rs. 300 monthly.
But if you are a heavy user like me the best option is MTNL. Though there service is not as good as the others, nobody today can beat the unlimited plans that Triband offers. The others will be at least twice as costly.
If you are a mobile user and have to use broadband at home and while you are travelling than just pickup anyone of Reliance, Airtel or Tata’s advanced USB modem based service. Though check first if you have good signal in your building of the service provider that you select. Not much in terms of commercial between them to choose from.

Who is “Broadband Unlimited”. I am very happy with my new MTNL triband connection.
MTNL is a sister concern company of BSNL and comes under Central Govt… The customer base of MTNL is nearly 5.92 million. And from past few years the graph is going down even if the Indian Govt. is spending too much of huge amount to uplift the customer base, but still the graph is going down and the main reason is their “GREAT SERVICES”. The MTNL lineman don’t have enough idea to configure even a modem and to solve a single complaint they take nearly 1 month or more because the don’t have enough workforce and the coverage area is very big. And when you see the MTNL exchange you become shocked to see their exchange, made of HUWIA equipments, and when you see the AIRTEL exchange you will find Ericson equipments just because the cost of HUWAI equipments are nearly half then Ericson.
Basically they have two type of exchange one is for 256 Kbps and one for above 256Kbps, if you buy plan for above 256 then you may get good response because for that only they use Ericson exchange.
I raised my voice at Consumer Court and submitted a online complaint and found that I am not one who is facing the problems with MTNL http://www.consumercourt.in/broadband/1-mtnl-broadband.html here you can check the details of complaints.
I don’t know why the Govt. change the plan to get more customer and spend a huge amount in ads, the salary of lineman is nearly 15000/-, I think this is a total waste. Customers are very much frustrated from MTNL. If you visit the MTNL exchange you will find many customers shouting on the Area Manager. MY personal experience with MTNL was pathetic and now I switched to another services provider and now I am very much satisfied.
AIRTEL, provides the best broadband services .. using it for last one year … gud connectivity n great offers ..
Try Genstar. 25000060, 22913582 ….They give better service with better packages for broadband. In case of wireless then you must opt for MTS

PLEASE DONT GO TO RAJESH HATHWAY..IM USING IT RIGHT NOW…BEEN ON IT FOR THE LAST TWO MONTHS AND I’VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT EVERY TWO DAYS….IF YOU STILL WANT TO GO FOR IT, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. THEIR SUPPORT STAFF JUST SWITCH THEIR MOBILE PHONES OFF, AND NO BODY PICKS UP THE PHONE AT THEIR OFFICE…THESE PEOPLE SHOULD REALLY BE SUED FOR SERVICE DEFFICIENCY!!
