For those who think they have been working like a dog, it’s time to take a break and visit the Jahangir Art Gallery this week.
Amused by the familiar term “kutte ki zindagi” that’s so often heard on the city’s crowded streets, trains and buses, a Powai-based artist Aruna Nene, has put together her interesting collection of paintings, portraying street dogs relaxing with gay abandon, even as the world around it rushes past.
Nene, a dog lover and a professional artist, says, she spent hours in railway stations and on city roads, observing, photographing and sketching stray dogs, before she set down to create her 16 acrylic canvas paintings.
“I used to be a resident of Kandivli, but recently shifted to Powai. During my daily journey in overflowing local trains and crawling traffic jams everyday, I often wondered why are people always in a hurry. That’s when a phrase caught my attention: kutte ki zindagi hai. I often heard people saying it,” she says.
