Organize as a group shortly and ask the election office in Chandivali to provide the voter IDs

Alls well with doing voter registration and giving people info. but I got a rude shock to reality today. Went to my AC in Chandivali to collect my Voter ID. Had submitted on Feb. 7 by the two day collection drive that was organized by Lakers.

I was informed by the Election office today that these IDs will be ready only in June. When I persisted, I got to see the collector who asked his team to search my name on the database. The guy he asked did not know how to use a computer so I told him I can search myself….all I saw was no one working and piles of registration papers. The only silver lining is that http://wwww.mumbaivotes.com has the local MP’s no. published. I called the line and left my details. I am hoping they will work with the election office to get the voter IDs out sooner. Cheers!!!

If we can again organize as a group shortly and ask the election office in Chandivali to provide the voter IDs we may be able to get a better response than going as individuals…

“I got a revert from Mumbai votes. Apparently all who applied after Jan. will get the registration on April 9. I am waiting for that now.”–Arpana Rawat

A few weeks back I went to the ERO in Vidya Vihar to check up if my name appeared in the rolls. There was a lot of confusion amongst them as to how to go about doing that. Some said the database is the latest, others were looking up some lists released in beginning of the year. Eventually after going through both, I found it in the database.
So that was a yeah! But what I found amusing is that all the time I was there, all they kept saying is that I should just go to the poll booth and if I was registered I could vote, if not then there is always the next election. While I was there, they told me how there was a packet of 4000 voter ID cards with them, but they had no resources to distribute them before the election so we should not expect to get them till later in the year.
Just FYI, if your name is confirmed on the electoral rolls and you are only missing the voter ID card, you can still vote, what you need is the registration slip and photo identity card. This is as per information from the ERO office.
